Read if you have been Referred to us from DSS
Once approved through the South Dakota Department of Social Services (DSS); DSS will send United Families information on your case. Upon receiving the information, one of our team members will be in contact you and all parties involved. You must complete an onsite orientation before the your visits can begin. Following completion of your orientation, it takes United Families 1- 3 weeks before scheduling your visits.
To help the process, please bring the following applicable forms completed to your orientation:
- Non-Custodial Form (only for non-custodial parent/guardian)
- Custodial Form (only for custodial parent/guardian)
- Policies and Procedures (read but do not fill out)
Also, if would like have guests or visitors not approved on the DSS form attend a visit, you must complete and bring the following form to the visit:
- Visitor Form (must be filled out before unapproved visitors or guests can attend a visit)

custody agreements, or mutual agreements through divorces or other legal
documents.
Upon obtaining a court order for supervised visitations and/or exchanges,
one of the parties must contact United Families before any visits can be scheduled. Once a party has contacted United Families (see below), we will set up an orientation.
An orientation must be completed by all parties before the visits can be scheduled.
Following completion of the orientation process it takes 1-3 weeks to schedule your visits.

Cost
Visitations $40.00 per hour
Exchanges $10.00 per exchange
Orientations $30.00 per person
The good news is, a Federal Access and
Visitation Grant has been awarded funds to help court ordered families pay for visitation
costs (see below).
The bad news is, when these grant funds are exhausted, court ordered families must pay:
$25.00 for initial orientations
$5.00 for each exchange and
$20.00 for each visitation hour.
As
long as grant money is available, United Families will provide scholarships to help
with the cost associated with orientations, visitations and exchanges. These scholarships
are awarded based on the financial needs of each party. Both parties are allowed to apply for the
scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to those who fill out the following
application below.
